THE ESSENCE OF DETROIT
In Bruce Mau’s MC24 book, one of the best design books, he quotes “Design unfolds in time. Musical time unfolds sequentially; Reading time unfolds episodically . . . Architectural time unfolds through the movement of bodies. Even static objects are experienced in time. Everything is cinematic.”
Detroit, the greatest American city of all time, has been a cinema of design, of creativity, of perplex problems & purposefully designed solutions occurring through historical episodes that have challenged this city & made it rise-up.
Along the historical art deco skyline, through the streets of imagination, past the raw unhinged corners of blight, and down underground lives the rich archival epicenter of culture, architecture, music, fashion, and of cinematic creativity that has stood and stands the test of time.
Now I have lived and traveled across the globe and in 2020, I arrived back in Detroit and called it home personally and for ASTOURI. The decision to move back was one of humanity.
The human composition of Detroit, the orchestra of diversity, inclusivity, creativity, and movement feeds our emoitional desires which is how and why we do what we do; to hope, to grow, to have pride, and to make a positive impact.
